You don't want to use polish remover. Use a product called 'Nail Lacquer Thinner.' Its made differently, and it works well. Just add 2-3 drops and shake well. Be careful how much you add so it doesn't thin too much. And, don't thin a bottle more than one time. If you find it hardening after you have already thinned it one time, its time to throw the bottle away.
When you are through with the polish, wipe the threads of the bottle off, and spread a thin coat of Vaseline onto the threads. Then tightly replace the top.
